Roy Sommer has coached his 400th win in the AHL. Roy was a member of the IHL Checkers in the mid 80's. He played on the same team with Charlie and Paul Skjodt. Kurt Kleinendorst (current coach of USA-U18 team) was around that year as well.

Indianapolis Ice Jersey

My wife has a signed jersey (most all the guys signed it) from the last season that Indianapolis Ice was in town. Will this jersey be worth anything one day? (not that we are selling it...lol)

The reason I ask is, we have a signed Binghamton Whalers (AHL) player jersey (from when we were going those games, that later on the team became the Binghamton Rangers, and now the Senators) that has 4 players that made it to the NHL (James Black, Terry Yake, etc).

Former Checker is now the European scout for the Chicago Blackhawks. There are so many people from that team that are in still in hockey.

The former coach of the CHL Ice has been announced as the coach of the AAHL Madison Ice Muskies. No word yet if son Rob will be involved!

Kurt was recently announced as the new head coach of the USNDP U-18 program. He played here as a member of the IHL Checkers in the mid 80's.

...has been named an assistant coach of the Ottawa Senators.

Lauer spent the past 2 seasons as an assistant for the Milwaukee Admirals, the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators.

According to TSN, he retired as a player after the 2001-02 season, which he spent in the esteemed British Super League.

Former Checker and Islander goaltender Rolan Melanson was recently given his walking papers as Montreal's goalie coach. He had been in the Montreal organization for 12 years.

Former IHL Ice D-man Jim Playfair was named head coach of the Abbotsford (BC) Flames at just about the same time that former Checker Greg Gilbert was being fired from his position as head coach of the Toronto Marlies.

Cedar Rapids announced their new ownership group recently. One of the names was Rory Cava. It is most likely this is the same gentleman who played with the IHL Checkers along with Charlie and Paul Skjodt. A special rivalry?

The St. John (NB) Seadogs announced they have added 2 new assistant coaches. One is former Checker Yvon Vautour. The other is former IHL Ice player MarcHussey. The hockey world is a small world.

Ron has long time ties with Indy, playing with the CHL Checkers and the IHL Ice. His son spent a couple
of years with the USHL Ice as well. He willbe coaching the Louisiana Ice Gators of the SPHL next season . He's been a hockey leader in that area since his retirement as a pro.

Houston (AHL) announced that they have signed Tony Hrkac to a contract this season. Tony is 42 now, so he's past his hockey prime. I wonder why he's doing this.
